Indeed - the reason I mentioned seo, was that I recently upgraded it to 3.2.0 and since that the server went a bit scatty.

Having removed VBE, no issues at all....that's not to say it was/wasn't seo, but something conflicted enough to break my server...optimization not withstanding, and uninstallation not withstanding, the mod IS a quality mod, and as soon as I can get to the bottom of the issue, it will be getting reinstalled
