I've seen this done on quite a few vB skins.
As seen in the 'Chops' category on:
http://www.carchops.com/forum.php

Where the forumbits are laid out like:
[ Category ]
[ Forum 1 ][ Forum 2 ]
[ Forum 3 ][ Forum 4 ]
[ Forum 5 ]

Is this done using a hack, or hand-coded on each skin?
Either way, could someone tell me how it's achieved?
