i do not have mini sites... when i buy a domain, it's because i want to exploit it with a production site... but you're right.. when you have nothing to do with a domain you own, having a mini-site is good for you! (though that kind of site NEVER bring profits... people never hit these links now that we all see these sites all over the web!)
