Our condolences to the plugin author. That is very sad news.

Instead of adding the link back to the profile page, I was able to add a "ban" link to the new user emails by adding the following text to the email body template:

Ban this user:
$vboptions[bburl]/misc.php?do=spamcleanconfirm&u=$userid

This saves the admins an extra step of visiting the profile, especially when responding via mobile phones.
