I just want to move the position of the left column to the right of the forum and have the right column be to the right of that.

Use the manual edits but put the $usc_left (or whatever the variable is called) next to the $use_right in the footer instead of the header. You still need to edit the header with the rest of the code, but just omit the variable and add it next to the other one in the footer.
