On SitePoint, the members can select the forum depth they see.. From 1 (Channel View) to 4 (All Forums, actually we only have 3 levels now).

The Channel View link is a way to force a depth of one (1)temporarily to reduce clutter if needed. This gives both guests and members more control over their experience.

Right now it doesn't really do much... As the channel view value isn't stored so it will be overwritten on the next full page load. However I plan on placing it in a session cookie so that guests can override the default for an entire visit.
