No site is compatible with IE8.. Or actually IE 8 is not compatible with any site at this time. Even if you visit some of Microsoft's sites they advise not using IE8. The first "Developer's Preview Beta" is just that a preview. It isn't meant for general browsing purposes. You need to use IE7 emulation mode to actually use the web in the software. It still has a long way to go before its street ready.

As far as "Web 2.0" it is a passing design style. Read the style blogs out there on the Internet. The new look is distressed Grunge, not the glossy look of Web 2.0.
