Template changes like that should be supported at vb.com, since it's not an official modification or add on your putting on your board. It's just different code in the Templates & Design.

If after upgrading it doesn't work, then you should recheck all your templates, as they warned before the upgrade that some had to revert and because of this it obviously removed all the changes you made. If you put them back in afterwards and it's not working, I'd ask them specifically as to what the problem is.

No offense but I don't feel like testing templates to figure this out when it worked before upgrade and now doesn't, I'd ask them at vbulletin.com
