Sadly many geeks like myself live in "white trash redneck towns" where it's still more important to know how to turn a wrench than it is to work on these new fangled adding machines. Thankfully I can do both but you'd never be able to tell just by looking.
I've also found my luck with women to be sub-par...

Sure they are very interested in me until Mr. I work at kinkos and have a nice car that my parents paid for walks up. Of course lately I've realized I'm after the wrong type of woman (hint: they suck down liquor like water and get passed around like a pogo-stick).
At any rate I hear where you're coming from and know I need a change in environment. But I must disagree with you on geeks living the high life. Most geeks I know drive compact Japanese cars and still live with their parents.
