It would likely be extremely difficult to work out if it was a deliberate cheating attempt. Yes, most such can be determined by if the score is far, far higher than the others (such as that trick involving submitting data from one game to another), but there are also programs that can be used for this, or certain minor exploits which allow for infinitely high scores and then the problem of some arcades allowing the context menu to work for flash games...
Plus, depending on the kind of game, its unfeasible to try and figure out if someone is actually cheating, since most games go on for eternity, and strategy type games like tower defence can be left on auto pilot after a certain point...
