Well first I'd definitely send the friendly email and wait a week for a response. That would help with seeing if you could get the PSD.

If so, easy assignment, if not, still not too bad since you said it's basically different sprites for each icon.

Of course those are Mario Bros' one, and the question is what sprites would you want on those buttons? Then where can we get those images?

All of that can be handled, with little to moderate difficulty.

Step 1 though is contact the original creator and see if you can get the PSD. Report back after you've heard yes or no.

P.S. Not knowing the font is frustrating, but the text is using a 2 color split gradient. The actual bg of the button is something similar or it's just two tone in rectangular shapes.
