Generally the rule is that if you spank immediately you tell the child why. Spanking should also occur soon after an inappropriate action has taken place. If not for both accounts, they associate spanking with anger and violence and not a form of learning.

I won't tell a parent one way another unless they are abusing their child in the standards of the law. I have to follow it strictly since part of what I do is training parents on handling difficult behaviors. While I specialize in autism you name the behavior I've more likely dealt with it...And felt it many a time. I also apply law to ensure that whoever's on the team understands what is involved and what the consequences will be if they do not adhere to it.

Still, while I agree with MPDev I will question parents who have no control over their own. It concerns me to see parents given in to child tantrums or give them so much freedom that boundaries are nonexistent. There are many who truly care and want to learn better ways to discipline their children but for those who neglect shouldn't have children in the first place.
