There's a lot more to the "Ubuntu Forums" theme than merely the 2-column subforum listings. Ubuntu-geek and the others at ubuntuforums.org have done a tremendous job of reducing clutter and unnecessary decoration to make those forums really clear and usable. The devil is in the details, and simply adding in the subforum listing doesn't deliver the whole thing.
I'd love to see a vB skin developed that really provides all the features of theirs. Even better, I'd love it if Ubuntu-geek would release that style as open source, so the rest of us could have a crack at helping to improve it even further!
There was some
discussion of releasing it in this thread, but there's also apparently a problem with some of the icon art being proprietary. It doesn't seem like this should be insurmountable. Generic, non-proprietary icons could almost certainly be substituted.
