We had this debate at TAZ Wayne you were wrong in your statements then as you are now and rest assure .gif is far from obsolete. Why should anyone have to resort to plugins for a format which is unknown to 99% of people. It's a hard enough time that the average users (pre vista) still uses internet explorer even previous to 6.0 which doesn't support true transparency.
Heck If I did opt to release in this format 99% of the people wouldn't even know what to do with the images.
gif will remain the standard for dynamic images for a long time and it's not because designers cannot be bothered with the format but rather that the majority of people don't even know about .MNG which leaves designing anything a waste of time doing something that the majority won't know what to do with it.
If .gif is obsolete in your books why haven't vbulletin took the next step and moved to .png? that is supported more than what .mng and your saying that we, sorry, "designers" should take that step to .mng for dynamic images.
