Then just don't hide everything.
If you force people to join just to get something they'll leave straight after getting it.

That'll get even worse once you force people to have a certain amount of posts before being able to see everything. They'll probably end up spamming their way up to the post count needed and then leaving because they have what they came for.

It's best to have information people would come to your boards for to be mostly public (Some of the good stuff can still be hidden though) so if they are happy, or just grateful they will join your community out of their own will and you'll end up with more, friendlier, and more active users than if you hide everything.

It's a bit complicated psychology, but it works.
