The Admincp, permissions, users, etc - Long time vB operator
When I started it was vB 2.1 something or other. I don't remember, I've slept since. Now we are on 3.6 something or other.
Over the years there have been several improvements and several dis improvements with vB's upgrades and changes. One thing that IMO has gone to pot is the admincp and the controls for permissions for users, usergroups, forums, etc. This may be strictly a problem with an older forum that's been through 47 upgrades, and possibly has ghosts from the past appearinig in the admincp I don't know, but somebody needs to do something with these permissions to make it simpler. You can access permissions (seeminly the same ones) at the user, usergroup, forum manager, and a host of other places. It's gotten to the point that anymore I'm not real sure who I've given permission to do what.
Somewhere along the way on one of the upgrades my administrators who have never had permission to access the admincp lost the power to ban users or overide a moderator's banning of a user. I've tried to give that back to them but the only way I've found to do so was to give them access to the admincp. I don't want that. They have no business having access to stats or the forum manager or the CSS or templates or anything of the sort.
Wasn't there a modcp a supermodcp and and admincp at one time?
The long and short is I think the admincp needs an overhaul with the permission systems to get it in a more convenient location and not be so confusing.
