I also thought that I should be able to switch it off and on in the Calendar area, but no option available in Admin CP -> Calendar -> Manage Calendar.

I did have a lead on another thread as follows.

Goto Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> Edit Templates -> Navigation/Breadcrumb Templates -> navbar

Edit the navbar template and comment out the Calendar section using "" after.
