Well the basic premise is this :

Your forum members create a character, give him a name, choose a class/job etc.

After this they choose monsters to fight in the RPG and can use the features that are listed, they can buy weapons, armour etc, battle other members, or battle AI monsters. This levels them up etc etc, just like a normal RPG, which lets them fight tougher monsters, get more gold, become the most powerful player etc etc.

Version 3, the most current version, expands on this. It lets you create places, so people can travel from town to town, to cities, villages, caves etc, wih a chance of encountering monsters on the way, you can set the mquests, there are NPCs to talk to to tell you interesting things, you can create your own weapons, and embark on huge quests, and the aim of v3 isnt so much have the most gold or be the best player, but try to get to the end of the game, follow the storyline, find the best stuff to make weapons and armour and stuff with, find books with stories, learn about the world, THEN try to become the strongeest, much like a normal MMORPG i.e WoW.

The unique thing is all the stuff your members can do, YOU make it, so you can make weapons, you make the quests, you can make the story, all that kind of thing. I think just now the total number of sites with some version of RPG Inferno installed is a few thousand, and everyone seems to really like it, and i dont think there is one site where it hasnt increased the length of time members stay on the forums, or the traffic. If nothing else it means people have something to do while waiting for replies to their threads, and a lot of forums tie it in with text based RPs, or if they play a game, tie it in with that.

So, for instance, you could tie it in with UT, make the weapons flak cannons, bio rifles, rocket launchers etc etc, and the AI bots UT characters, like Lauren, Brock etc etc
