Users browsing threads need a quick thread subscriber - a visual icon, probably ajax based, that enables one to subscribe to a thread without requiring the need to use the current Thread Tools > Select subscription > Submit > Use back button to return to previous thread position.

This would be of special benefit to those people that are new to discussion forums. At the moment this feature is too hidden away.
