Why do I offer free hosting?
I used to help out at another free hosting forum. I got fed up and I left for a while. When I went back I was demoted.

I started my own service because I knew I could do it better. So far my site is getting more activity than the other site.

On my forum if a user has their own free hosting service I give them the freedom to advertise it. I believe that if you're confident your site is better than the others than a simple link won't have any affect on your site.
