there's a lot to consider ... it's not about "what gets more attention"

readability - we (english) are accustom to reading from left to right; hence, the left-hand side will get a lot of focus

SEO - on table layouts, a left-hand sidebar will get indexed before the contents on the right-hand side (99.9% of table layouts that I've seen); so, what's more important to you?

on a 2-column table layout, the contents will get indexed in the following manner
1 | 5
2 | 6
3 | 7
4 | 8

you have to find a balance as to what you want/need ... a good designer will understand the above and recommend the best solution for you ... they may even recommend a different approach to the same solution (which there's a few)
