Ok lets say I have in image map on my forum... a map of the United States. Clicking on a state will take you to a forum category for that state.

I need a way to create notifications on the map for new posts. Is there a way I could position icons/images of some sort over each state and have them change when there are new posts in that category?

Any help would be much appreciated.
