I have a forum that I would like to have password protected (hosted on the internet, but should be used by authorized users only).

I'm looking for something that will allow visitors (non-registered) to the forum to request read-only access to the site. They will supply an email address that is entered into a queue of sorts, and if they are approved (via the CP on the user end or the admin end), they have 'x' (configurable) amount of time to peruse the site. After this time, they are prompted to register for the site (or possibly reapply for a new or extension to their temporary password)

Does that make sense? Does it exist?
