You could create a secondary usergroup for the bouncing members that way subscription usergroups aren't affected (i think - i never use subscriptions).

No, that's not how this hack works. Any Administrator with "admin settings" permission must manually click on the link in the email's header, that's the only way anything is changed by this hack.
