Maybe I misunderstood hidden groups from the start... I thought they were groups that the group leader chose to hide from everyone and could only be accessed by invite -- is that not correct?

The hidden groups functionality right from the start was always the ability to hide groups from group listings i.e. (browse.php) and the listings on (index.php).

the infraction system is native to the vBulletin forums. just like the reputation only displays what you got but doesn't allow for users to actually add reputation based on group posts, the infraction system isn't integrated into groups either.
