I think the logo is too simple. There is not much to make it stand out. Perhaps a background image or alteration of the lettering would help.

The colors bug me. The blues are too bright, distracting from the content. The new post buttons do not seem to fit the style at all, being a different yet bright shade of blue.

The first thing to focus on would be color, as noted above. Tone down the blues a bit...and possible lighten up the background and see how it looks. Once you get that looking good revisit your logo and make it work with your new colors.

As far as forum layout I think you have a good start. There are not too many categories so far and you should be able to expand easily as the community grows.
