You need SCSI drives for databases. 15K rpm is preferable. I would also add more memory. It should tide you over for a bit.

On the software side, install APC or one of the other php accelerators. Configure vb to use the datastore. Tune Mysql. Install sphinx to unload the heavy searches from Mysql.
