I guess then you'll just have to use your best judgement. I can recall different assignments that would've either approved or discouraged such creative writing (for example, a persuasive/argumentative essay would not want fictual writing). From the sounds of it, I don't think this is the case for your topic, and that it would be a good addition. But alas, I am not in your class, so I can't say for sure.
