i have my .htaccess in www.domain.com/forums/
The .htaccess file that you are required to place in /root/ is what 'tricks' google into thinking that the files ARE located in the root, where they HAVE to be for Google Sitemaps.

@brvheart - works 100% fine in 3.6.4.
