Javascript is probably what you need.

Actionscript is similar to Javascript. If you are proficient in Actionscript migrating to Javascript will not be hard. If this is the case you may want to take PHP.

PHP has nothing to do with design ... it's a server language.

I'm assuming you already no XHTML/CSS.
