I make a very high point of doing this. In the last 8 days I have gone from no vbulletin installed, to vbulletin installed with hundreds of members and thousands of posts. More than 50% of the users are very active every day, supplying content for me to push to front page as news, which gets more in.

I have one forum area that is members only that gets people in and I PM every new user to get them to go and post an "introduction" about them. A number of the current memebers and myself then go and say "hi" on their intro thread and make them feel like a part of the site straight off the bat. Keeps them coming back!

Also, the arcade is a great mod to use too
