Yes, you are right - very bad analogy. I do not condone blaming the bartender for some idiot to get drunk and go driving on his own will. The drunk doesn't need a babysitter, and neither does anyone else. The drunk made a bad decision, and now they got to deal with it. Either they learned, or they go out and do it again. This is the way most people with common sense act.
It is common sense, and not hard to protect your own assets and I don't need, nor really want vBulletin to babysit me, and most customers would feel the same way. I purchased a product, and support for that base product, nothing more. If you are going out of your way to get coders to hack up something that vB makes very clear that it does not support, then why should they be in any way responsible?
