You would need boatloads of traffic before you get that kind of revenue from just ads. You need to also keep in mind that regular members are not going to click on ads often, if at all... so to make that from ads you're going to want a lot of quick visits from "guests".

I've found that big bucks comes from offering premium services to members. $20 - $40 a year will give them access to certain features. But uh.. make sure that the features are something WORTH paying for, otherwise it will flop.

I don't understand when some sites offer premium memberships before a certain usergroup is allowed to post attachments, or have avatars, or something cheesy like that. The person will just go join a message board where they offer that stuff for free.

Anyways, I don't even know if this is what you're talking about since you never mentioned "ads" but I still wanted to post it.
