Tobybird, this hack to view the forum list would have no affect on what guests can & can't see once they go to http://www.yoursite.com/forums/external.php as that is controlled through the permissions of the stock vBulletin external.php script. Even if a private forum was accidently listed with this hack then once they clicked on the link they still wouldn't be able to see anything if the forum permissions are correct. If a guest is able to go directly to your external.php link and view threads from a private forum then a different problem is going on.
