go into your ACP and then into styling and templates, once in there find the skin that the buttons aren't showing up on and then on the drop down for it choose STYLE VARS.

in this menu go near the bottom and it'll have some links to your buttons directories, as an example:

Buttons folder
this is where your buttons for your boards are kept

then on the right it'll say something like:

yourdomain.com/images/buttons or /images/buttons

change this to the location of your forlders on your servers and make sure your buttons are named correctly.

best thing to do is to make a folder for example "Example Skin" and then put each button folder (eg misc, buttons, statusicons) into that folder and upload it to your IMAGES folder on your server.

when you change the style vars it'll be like below:

/images/EXAMPLESKIN/misc

the buttons should then show up ^_^
