Sometimes things have to be altered - due to the way styles are handled. I have styles that work well from parent to style, but on the flip side there are certain template that I have to "rewrite" or "alter" on my child style because it isn't behaving properly - it isn't inheriting the parent template - or the default behavior that I need isn't working. I personally don't understand this, but I understand this to be because my styles vary much farther than the norm. A default style as a child style should act correctly.
