That is most definately the best way to do it! I have learned so much about PHP, MySQL, XHTML, forum management, all kinds of things from adminstrating my own forum this last year. I'm MOST DEFINATELY no expert, but I'm definately learning, and picking up things along the way, and it's mostly to Trial and Error (ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAN ON LEARNING THAT WAY - I learnt it the hard way!).
