Yea, I've seen that thread. But I think there is a solution:
When a readme file in one of my installation manuals is opened and a link in it is clicked, there is no referrer (afaik) because the file is opened locally.
When an img tag "requests" the same URL, there is a referrer, and I don't think there is any way to circumvent that.

So why not put protection only on those cases when there is a referrer?
