vb.org Archive - View Single Post - Users awaiting email confirmation

I have a strange problem with 3.5.4 at the moment where previously registered users that have been visiting the site for a while suddenly end up back in the users awaiting activation usergroup and they cannot post. I have the email confirmation option enabled and it seems to work fine for the test users I create but I am at a loss as to why registered users end up back in here?

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if anyone knows how to resolve it.
