I actually took some time to go through my own registration process. After a half hour of playing with the phrases on Friday, I saw my conversion rate go from 45% to 75%! I spend $4 a day on advertising and really wish I did this six months ago. So it goes...

I also changed the background of the welcome headers so it's different from the rest of the forum and the header. I think this makes it easier to tune it out once you read it. This DOUBLED the percentage of people that clicked register.

If you haven't spent time with your own registration process, it's worth the investment. Make your users feel at home.
