help with registration

I added a new user group and i want that group set so that when someone registers it automatically puts them in that group instead of registered group?

what php file would i edit to make this...

i want to make it to where when my members sign up they get set as a newbie instead of registered - what .php file do i edit and what code would i change?

im redoing my board and i dont want to loose all my members is there a way to copy a file over from 1 board to the other so i can keep my members?

I have 52 tables in my mysql database and i got told it wasnt good to have that many.. is that true and if so is there a way to get rid of any without screwing up my board?
