When I click the root www.maydomain.org/ (NB: the forums are on /forums/)
It is fixed when I turn VBSEO off, but them /forums/ does not...

How do I disable new user Home Page URL

I am getting a lot of user profile spam and want to disable new users from being able to add their home pages / URL's to their profile pages, how do I do it? Am using vBulletin 4.1.12 Patch Level 3

It seems php 5.4.8 is the problem, as my hosting company have now put me on PHP 5.2.17 and they say the problem is solved (I have yet to confirm this).

The trouble is, you do not know whether something is a true GoogeBot or not as Google do not publish all of their IP ranges for obvious reasons. The only safeguard is to do a reverse dns lookup.
