Attachment problems

When trying to upload an attachment, i get the following error

Upload of file failed

Anything under a meg seems to be fine but over the error comes.

Currently the pages stored for new posts is maxxed at 25 pages on the new posts page.

Is there any way that this can be changed to say like 40 or 50?
