Is there a way to set the forum so that visitors can view the forum names, but when they click on to read a thread and posts, it directs them to register?

Mac User reg. issue

I'm just setting up my site. A friend uses a Mac. She wasn't able to register, and it didn't show in admin as her having attempted to. I manually registered her and can login using her password...
