My bad! I use no prefix, so I just removed all the vb3_'s from the.inc.php and it works now :D

AdminCP > Usergroups > Promotions

You can set it in there, just change Reputation Level, Days Registered & Posts to 0. Promotion Strategy to Join Date and that will send them to the newbie group.
