If its posting the quickcodes in your post, then hit edit, then save, which forces the forum to reparse the post...and your codes will become smileys.
Bit of a pain, but a workaround though.

When someone uses the Contact Us form, the email that comes through is from an email address (The members email address if they're logged in).

Then you can just uninstall the old version 2.x then install...

It does have some limitations, in that it requires a space before AND after each trigger word to make it work.

What with vBulletin stripping the spaces at the end...
