mySQL regarding vbJournal, vbChat, Flashchat and other programs

I have 3.5 gold installed. My server gives me one mySQL database and charges me $1 per month for each extra mySQL database.

I was wondering, regarding these other programs to install with vBulletin 3.5, can I install them without having to pay the extra $1's per month for each program that needs mySQL database?

It would start to get quite expensive.

Don't they all use the same database?

Most of them use the same Dbase as Vbulletin. The only exceptions, you would not particulally call vbulletin hacks eg.Coppermine gallery, you would need another dbase, however this is a completely seperate program to vbulletin, the hack is mearly an interface between the two.

I currently have a forum running on vb3.07 (soon to be 3.5 hopefully) and it`s hacked to high hell. I have an arcade installed, portal, petz, bookies, cash system etc etc and all of these in the same dbase. As I said the only exeption for me was my gallery, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

I believe that all use the same database...

You believe correctly, all the ones listed in the title use the vb database, just new tables.

Flashchat is offered by another company, a completely separate program, yet I can install it on my database where my forum is?

If this is true, then I could use the database my forum is on for anything, like directories such as a phplinkdirectory, perhaps some independent topsites, and all kinds of other stuff. http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/comp...man/Itemid,30/

Am I right about this? Hope someone can help me understand if I can install other stuff, because I am told I have only one sql database, and they charge $1/mo extra for each additional sql database.

I don't get it. Once the point of paying lots of money for an sql database, and you can only use one program or programs related to it?

Correct, I said all the ones listed, not all except Flashchat. :)

Quite possibly.

You can use one database for as many things as you like, as long as the table names don't clash. vbulletin (and flashchat for that matter) allow you to use table prefixes to help make name clashes unlikely.

BTW, having said all this, I personally would kick into touch any host with such a stupid charging policy as what you mention. Most hosts will allow you several databases as part of your package.

personaly i would get another host most should at least give you a few but like everyone else said they can all be put on same db... only reson you really need another sql is for subdomains and such...

Now, I got to figure out how to change the prefixes.
