Smilies, this can't be that hard?

I have seen this requested a few times in other version forums and I cannot believe it has not been done yet. Maybe it is difficult, I don't know, but it seems as though it would be relatively easy to do.

I have hundreds of smilies and the [More] popup is just ridiculous. Can't someone come up with a plugin that lets the admin set a number of smiles per page with a page nav menu at the top/bottom with [1,2,3,4,...] etc.?

I don't have a ton of dough but I would be willing to toss up $25 for the coder who does this and releases to the public here.

It just seems that with the level of complexity of most of the hacks here that someone should be able to bang this out in no time at all.

Thanks.

One bump.

We feel your pain RMS-Chef. We too have hundreds of smilies and there should be a more common sense way of handling them. One way would be to make a categories link box, where when you clicked on the 'More' link it would open up a menu and display JUST links to all of your other smilies. An example of the way it would look appears below:
  • Basic Smilies
  • Animal Smilies
  • Large Smilies
  • Funny Smilies
  • Sad Smilies
  • Sign Smilies
  • All Smilies

This way the person wouldn't have to wait over for long periods of time while every single smilie loaded over and over again  This would also save you bandwidth (which is always a good thing) as the person could then just click on the appropriate smilie catagory and open just that one up.

Sorry for digging up this thread again.

But I also am searching for a mod like this.

There should just be not only one [More] link, but two and the admin should be able to control which smilie categories are displayed in the respective popup window.

Has anyone got a solution to this?
