Is it possible to generate a welcome thread in a given forum.

For example.

A person registers as dudeman, instead of emailing and welcoming them I would like to have the program or hack generate a welcome in say my general forum.

So a new thread is created with the title.
Welcome our newest member dudeman, the message will say something like welcome dudeman to our forum, blah blah blah.
Then others will see it and respond and say hello too.
I see many of the members creating welcome posts and would like to make this automatic.

Can this be done. Is doesn't seem too hard but haven't seen any hacks that generate threads.
Does anyone know how to do this.

For the title you can use something like the welcome our newest member on the forumhome page and insert into the title, then the message would be the same but it would use the persons username.

Even if it will be unresponded to until more people see it, it will be cool to have someone register then it redirects to forumhome and they enter the general forum and a welcome with their name is already there.

A little help.
thanks.
anyone else interested in this?

not hard at all. Somewhere in register.php you just new a new SQL querty to create a new thread. Do it just after it emails the person. I am about to set up an auto pm after install some time this week i hope so might be able to tell you exactly how to do it then, but it is peraphs worth looking to try it yourself as it is quite easy i would think.
