HTTP_REFERRER Logging

A good way to make your site better is to look at who/what is linking to your site. Most of your traffic comes from search engines, but sometimes you can find leeches, or hackers by checking the HTTP_REFERRER hitting your site. Granted, this can be spoofed, but I'm willing to say 98% of your visitors hitting your site aren't spoofing.

Can someone make an additional log for the AdminCP that logs these referrers? That would really help me out. Thanks in advance!

Apache does already log them.

Btw.: My site get's only approx. 10% traffic from search enignes.

Have a look at a host that offers Urchin Stats, AWStats or Webalizer. Alternatively any website will log that information in it's raw logs. Ask your host for access if you don't have it.

While we're on the subject though, it would be great to have a mod that displays a list of referrering domains in the manner of the right-hand column of this page:

For that matter, the rest of the stuff on that page is pretty cool too.

is there any mods that do this yet i have been looking around for something like this.... it would be much easier to check from admincp...

funinthesun 11-26-2005 03:07 PM

I agree, would be a cool mod :)

HTTP_REFERRER would be cool!!!
Come on guys, this is really needed. Any CMS system (e.g. postnuke) can do that.
Of course, you could use AWStats or Webalizer but not anyone has that installed. Not to mention that I do not like neither one.

It would be much more convenient if you could access these logs through the vbulletin admin interface.

I usually see them in my hosting cp :)
I agree with Andreas though that only a little percent comes from search engines. Well, maybe I need some SEO :p
